   2024 AMC 10

What is AMC 10?

The AMC 10 (American Mathematics Competitions 10) is a mathematics competition in the United States for students in 10th grade or below. It is one of the competitions organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). The AMC 10 is part of the broader series of AMC competitions, which also includes the AMC 12.

Key features of the AMC 10:

1.     Eligibility: The competition is open to students in 10th grade or below.

2.     Format: The AMC 10 consists of 25 multiple-choice questions to be completed in a 75-minute time frame. The questions cover various topics in algebra, geometry, number theory, and combinatorics.

3.     Scoring: Each correct answer earns the participant 6 points, and there is no penalty for incorrect answers and 1.5 points for the skipped ones.

4.     Purpose: The AMC 10 aims to promote the development of problem-solving skills and an appreciation for mathematics among high school students. It serves as a qualifying round for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME).

5.     Competition Levels: The AMC competitions, including the AMC 10, are the first steps in the selection process for the United States International Math Olympiad (USAMO) team.

Why AMC 10?

Participation in the AMC 10 provides students with an opportunity to challenge themselves mathematically, compete with peers nationally, and potentially advance to more challenging mathematical competitions. It helps students to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The AMC 10 and 12 exams are the first in the sequence of exams used to qualify for the US Math Olympiad team. Top-scoring students can receive awards and qualify for the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME).
